Green smoothies are a great way to get a good dose of greens into your diet – far more than just eating a salad. And combining them with fruit makes them more palatable for many. A serving of the smoothie below contains over 3 cups of dark leafy green vegetables, which is more than many people get in a week!
Greens have more valuable nutrients than any other food group on the planet. They even have high-quality, easily-assimilated protein. Don’t believe me? Just look at the gorillas, giraffes, cows…they all live off greens and can pack on the muscle, height, and girth.
Blending helps your body absorb the maximum amount of nutrition from your greens, by breaking down the cell walls. My only warning (or advice) when making a smoothie like the one below is it is best if you have a high powered blender like a VitaMix. Other blenders may not blend the veggies as nicely, leaving chunks…not so tasty or appealing in my opinion.
Ingredients (2-4 servings)
- 1 ½- 2 cups very cold water
- 6 cups spinach, chopped
- 5 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
- 1 cucumber
- 1 apple, cored and chopped

- 1 frozen banana
- 1–2 Tbs. fresh organic lemon juice
Feel free to mix and match the greens and fruits in this smoothie to get variety and find the combination that pleases your taste buds the most! Give leftovers to your coworkers or store in the fridge for up to 2 days.
